Autumn Whitaker looks like a Princess at the Bal Crillon des Debutantes

2009 started with Barack Obama being sworn in and will end with Disney's first Black Princess in the movie The Princess and the Frog. Fashiona is looking forward to seeing it shortly...hopefully Sis will let her wear her tiara.

Every year, privileged young women are presented in society, their chance to be real life princesses before they  graduate to being a platinum bride in give or take a decade or two.   The ritual  is an old one with girls in gowns (white gowns in the most traditional balls), looking like the young women they have grown into.  The crème de la crème of the balls is the Bal Crillon des Debutantes.

In 1991, Ophélie Renouard, French PR guru revived the tradition, adapting it to the modern world, by creating le Bal, a French fashion event.  The young women that are invited to be in the ball are between 17-21, from upstanding and usually very wealthy familes and they  excel in their academics.

Autumn Whitaker, the only child of Forest and Keisha Whitaker looked stunning in Jason Wu.  She is the only black debutatante this year but not the first.  That honor went to African native, Elisabeth Senghor, a few years back.
