Social Sunday: Fashiona pays tribute to Elizabeth Taylor

A child in the 1980's, Fashiona first remembers seeing screen legend Elizabeth Taylor along side Michael Jackson and then as the diamond lady in the White Diamonds' commercials.

Fashiona has since seen most of Elizabeth's biggest movies with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof  being her favorite.

Ms. Taylor, like Maggie was unapologetically stunning.  She loved fiercely and often and she was passionate about what really mattered to her.

Elizabeth Taylor will be remembered for her violet eyes, her love for extravagant jewelry, in her latter years her work with AIDS awareness and of course her legacy of movie classics.

RIP Dame Elizabeth Taylor 1932-2011

Fashiona Rocks the Red Pump

Fashiona braved the cold today and rocked her red pumps in honor of the 3rd annual National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD).

Luvvie Ajayi and Karyn Watkins, founded The Red Pump Project in March 2009.

We use the red shoe as a symbol of empowerment to represent the strength and courage of women infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. The incorporation of fashion into the message of HIV prevention is our contribution as we hope to show that Awareness is Always in Style!™

Tipster Thursday: When is a tag more than a just a tag?

Any fashionista or fashionisto is intimately familiar with the tags on their newly acquired purchases (or soon to be acquired purchases).
  • There is of course the lovely designer label with "notable" price tag...must pay to play.
  • The care label...also important because of the aforementioned "notable" price tag
  • And now at White House Black Market (where Miss Fashiona works),.... the more fun Microsoft Tag, a very FREE cool mobile app  that runs on MOST  major smart phones

How does it work?

  • Download the app from your phone  http://gettag.mobi
Scan a picture of the special tag as seen on the Work Kit Collection - A  mix and match collection that can be worn from desk to dinner.

  • Watch the Work Kit  Video
  • Share the Work Kit Video via Facebook and Twitter
  • View Work Kit Photos
  • Shop Work Kit Collection
How cool is that...just another reason that Fashiona loves working there

Fashiona at Atlanta's The Adjustment Bureau Screening

Have you seen The Adjustment Bureau yet...if not please go and treat yourself to this slick urban thriller ASAP. It opened everywhere March 4, 2011.

Fashiona and Sis went to the Atlanta screening on February 16. Fashiona, who loves movies that require a little brain power, was pleasantly surprised with the on screen chemistry between Emily Blunt and Matt Damon.  The timeless struggle between fate and free will is played out in modern day New York.  Anthony Mackie delivered a convincing performance as an Adjuster with a soft spot for the seemingly doomed young couple. Read Fashiona's full review on Examiner.com.

After the movie, Mr. Mackie  was ushered into the theater for an Q and A session.  The Juillard trained actor talked about his take on Hollywood and acting in general.  He recognizes that acting is his gift and he wants to use his God-given gift responsibly. He shared with the crowd that he mentors younger actors whenever he can.  Now that he is established in his career (after the huge success of Hurt Locker)...he is able to be very selective and takes the time of researching scripts before he signs onto a new project.

He left us with these two thoughts:

Play your Role and Accept the responsibility of your actions and consequences.

Fashiona's Red Carpet Review: Oscars 2011

Fashion wise, Fashiona deemed the Oscars 2011 as one of best years in quite some time. Shades of purple were all over the Red Carpet, breaking up the long line of "safe" black dresses.

The fashion parade was so delightful  in fact that she could not decide who won the Best Dressed (hence the delay in this post).

Even the "bad" fashion was appealing in a cheeky way....

Best example was Helen Bonham Carter who seems to relish in her reputation as an eccentric (tacky) dresser.  Her Colleen Atwood Victorian style black corset-style velvet and taffeta dress was beautifully done...it was the Union Jack flag tied to her calf, garter style that really made headlines.

Jennifer Hudson made the Huffington Post Worst Dressed list...but Fashion disagrees.   Her Versace tomato color taffeta dress was daring...especially for her.  Now her hair was another story....the late Ray Charles could have done a better job fixing those roots...

Gwenyth Paltrow, who was way too thin to wear that cat suit she wore for the Golden Globes, went back to a more "Gwennie" type look.  The iridescent Calvin Klein gown fit her lean physique perfectly.

Scarlett Johansson's gown was unexpected for her...loved the plum color and the cut out back...very Dolce and Gabbana.

Camila Alves (the Brazilian model girlfriend of Matthew McConaughey) looked the part of a Hollywood diva of yesteryear in Kaufman Franco.

Halle Berry was breathtaking...as usual.  She tends to wear Elie Saab a lot but went with Marchesa instead.

Natalie Portman is easily winning the Best Dressed Preggers award, she chose a pretty shade of plum purple by Rodarte.

Black Swan's Mila Kunis chose Elie Saab and as George Kotsiopoulos, co-host of E!'s Fashion Police,  predicted during Fashiona's interview with him last week, was on most of the Best Dressed Lists.

Mila completely nailed Red Carpet: just enough sparkle, hair pulled back to show off her features and the lilac color choice...perfect.
